Shared Ministry Through the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference, First United Methodist Church of Scotch Plains belongs to a network of 530 churches. Each church is expected to contribute to the conference budget so that local, national and international ministries can be grown and sustained. Among these programs are those we have supported in the past, including CUMAC- a hunger ministry in Paterson; Maker’s Place- serving people in Trenton through its diaper and food ministry; the Neighborhood Center- serving people in Camden; Africa University, which trains Methodist clergy. This important work has been part of our budget for years. Now however, there is a shortfall hindering us fulfilling these obligations.
During this Giving Season, please consider designating a gift to “Shared Ministry” through your offering to our church, for these important programs. You may give in honor of loved ones, in lieu of sending Christmas cards, or as a way to witness to your commitment to sharing God’s love. Aldersgate Legislation Our congregation holds fond memories of camping and retreats at Camp Aldersgate. During the GNJ Annual Conference meeting, held on October 5 and 6, 2020 Legislation concerning Camp Aldersgate was approved. Because the property would require $4 million of deferred maintenance and annual operational costs of $50,000 the GNJAC voted to sell the property and to use the proceeds to support Next Generation Ministries and to support the Greater New Jersey Korean Methodist Church Association to honor the legacy of Henry Appenzeller.
