Beliefs

WE ARE GUIDED BY THIS KEY SCRIPTURE:

One of the religious scholars came up… he put in his question: “Which is most important of all the commandments?” Jesus said, “The first in importance is, ‘Listen, Israel: The Lord your God is one; so love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.’

And here is the second: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment that ranks with these.”

Mark 12:28-31, from The Message

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

We, the people of the First United Methodist Church of Scotch Plains, are a community of God’s people bound together for the mission of making disciples for Jesus Christ. We do this through Worship, Christian Education, Spiritual Growth and Fellowship.

The dynamic power of our church is the Spirit of the Living Lord. We trust God’s guidance through the Holy Spirit, both personally and in community.

It is our purpose to answer God’s call to ministry and mission in the Spirit of Jesus Christ by sharing God’s Love with others. We serve Christ as Lord through our nurturing of each other, or outreach mission work and our witness to God’s Holy power.
